    | Breaking in your Hiking Boots |
    |

OK, you think you are ready for the trails. You went out and bought the latest and greatest pair of lightweight, weatherproof, indestructible hiking boots and you are ready to slip them on for the first time and hit the trails. Here is a little advice. DON'T DO THAT.

You need to break in your boots before hitting the trails. Sore feet on a trip is even worse than getting hit with stinging nettle. Chances are that you will develop blisters so bad that you wont be able to even walk.

So, here is some friendly advice that will keep you safe. First, try and be prepared for any trips by purchasing your boots weeks in advance of any hiking trips. Second, be patient and cautious when buying boots. Take your time in the boot shop and make sure you get a good fit for your foot. Lastly, wear your boots around the house and to the store. Wearing them for shorter amounts of time to let the material form to your foot. Also, make sure to wear the boots around a few days before the trip. That will really help.

Also, keep in mind, that even if you have shoes that are broken in and you have already successfully hiked in, it is always a good idea to wear them a few days before any major hike.
